My first episode of Whiskey Wishes and Bourbon Dishes, I had the pleasure to travel to Northern lower Michigan to visit a distillery that is truly a farm to glass production.

My trip to Thompsonville, Michigan is less than 2 miles from Crystal MT Resort, and was a beautiful drive through the rolling hills and woods of MI and then onto a dirt road back into the boonies! And then suddenly you come to an open wheat field clearing and you see the farm & distillery on the other side!

This is Iron Fish Distillery!

They have truly created a destination for those who love the outdoors, conservation and of course spirits!

Michigan’s first farm to glass distillery, with a “Sustainable Spirits” pledge to their customers, partners, community and Mother Nature”.

And in 5 short years they have award winning spirits in both vodka and their gin.

They have captivated Michiganders hearts through their spirits & their spirit of giving back…

With a portion of the sales from Iron Fish Distillery’s Rye Whiskey will go to The Michigan Arctic Grayling Initiative to help reintroduce the Artic Grayling back into Michigan streams.

And also their support towards historic Calumet Theatre in Calumet, Michigan with proceeds from the Cooper Queen whiskey.

When the 2020 pandemic began Iron Fish Distillery:

  • Contributed to the pandemic needs by switching to producing hand sanitizers during our time of need.
  • They created a safe place for families and friends to gather in an outdoor setting while continuing to follow MI ordinances and safety practices..

The tours are currently closed due to the pandemic, but a must see in the near future to hear all the stories of their farm!

The distillery is founded and run by two sisters and their husbands who have a passion for whiskey! Heidi Bolger & David Wallace, Sarah & Richard Anderson.

The story goes that shortly after purchasing the 120 acre farm in Thompsonville, the two sisters bought their husbands tickets to go to Scotland as a gift.

While touring the country side and visiting Scotland’s distilleries…and of course drinking the find spirits! They came upon a farm distillery that looked much like the farm they had purchased back home.

They soon realized that they could build the same distillery as well, and it wasn’t long after that Iron Fish Distillery was born!

In a relatively short time, they created an award winning farm to glass distillery that stays true to their conservation beliefs, and surpasses their own dreams, as well as their customers/vistors expectations.

This is a must see destination and their whiskey & bourbons are truly amazing.
